Selling Your Yacht: Timeline, Fees, and What to Expect

Honest answers to the questions yacht owners ask before listing. No fine print.

How long does it take to sell a yacht through YachtsDirect?

The timeline depends on which selling path you choose. Full brokerage typically runs 4–12 weeks from listing to close, including marketing, qualified buyer outreach, survey, and closing. Wholesale purchase offers are issued within 24 hours of walk-through and typically close in 3–7 days. Trade-in valuations are completed and credited within 24 hours, with closing timed to your replacement yacht.

How much does it cost to sell a yacht with YachtsDirect?

There are no upfront listing fees and no obligations for a valuation. Marketing, qualified-buyer outreach, sea-trial coordination, and survey scheduling are included in our full-brokerage service at no additional cost to you. Brokerage commission is paid only when your boat sells. For wholesale and trade-in paths, there is no commission — you receive a firm offer or credit value.

Commission rates depend on vessel value, condition, and selling path. Call (302) 670-5022 or email Office@yachtsdirect.us for a quote specific to your boat — we’ll walk you through every fee in writing before you commit.

What information do you need to provide a yacht valuation?

For a written valuation we need basic vessel details:

  • Year, make, model, and length
  • Hull identification number (HIN)
  • Engine make, model, and engine hours
  • Current condition, known issues, and recent service history
  • Title status, lien status, and current location
  • Recent photos — exterior, interior, engine, and electronics

Photos are optional for the initial valuation but speed up the firm-offer step significantly. The submission form above walks you through each field.

What happens after I submit my boat?

Within one business day you receive a call or email from a YachtsDirect broker to confirm details, ask follow-up questions, and discuss which selling path fits your goals best. We then issue a written valuation along with a no-pressure recommendation on whether to list, sell wholesale, or trade in.

Nothing moves forward until you say so. If you choose to engage us, you sign a written agreement spelling out the path, timeline, and any fees — no verbal commitments, no surprises.
